A woman who treated it as something sacred, who returned every summer to keep it alive with care and simple acts of maintenance.
Her name was Grazia.
She — and her husband Costantino — eventually decided to buy the house from the other heirs. At that time, the property was in desperate need of restoration. There was only one bathroom, and it was outside. Yet this wasn’t just a real estate purchase. It was an act of love. A way to honour a place and its story.

In 2001, the house was transformed. The structure was fully renovated, but with great respect for its original soul. Rather than hiding the past, it was revealed — celebrated.
That’s how Antico Borgo Sanda was born: a boutique bed and breakfast on Lago Maggiore where authentic Italian hospitality meets the charm of a timeless home.
Today, it is lovingly carried forward by Andrea, Grazia’s son, who has inherited not just the keys to the house, but its spirit — and a clear vision.
